Bernard began his training at the Philadelphia High School for the Performing Arts before earning scholarships to Pennsylvania Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Princeton Ballet, and The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. His career spans performances with Philadanco, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Broadway’s The Lion King, and Cirque du Soleil’s Zumanity and Mystère. As Founder and Artistic Director of Contemporary West Dance Theatre, Nevada’s first professional contemporary company, Bernard continues to lead with vision, innovation, and a commitment to shaping the next generation of artists.⁠

We are honored to have Bernard bring his vision to the 2026 Creative Movers Choreographic Initiative alongside fellow CMCI choreographer, Clifford Williams, and Joffrey Concert Group Artistic Director, Bradley Shelver.⁠
