#TerrierTuesdays: Meet Helen Lallos-Harrell (bu_cas ’27)! Originally from Oak Park, Illinois, Helen’s transition to BU was nontraditional as she was accepted as a guaranteed transfer student. She felt it was daunting at first to arrive in Boston, but she was able to find her way by taking advantage of the University’s array of student clubs and organizations. Helen chose BU for its strong academic reputation, research programs, and its location in the city of Boston. She is a junior double-majoring in political science and economics. Helen was initially a biology major, but she discovered a love for public services during her first year of college and decided to follow a different path. On campus, she is the Vice President of Community Affairs for CAS Student Government (cas_stugov). She also serves as the Vice President of Operations for Kappa Alpha Theta (thetabostonu). This past summer, Helen had an internship experience at Northwestern University’s Center for Food Allergy and Asthma Research. She spent 11 weeks conducting public health research, and she was able to conduct her own research and present my work at a poster presentation. Looking ahead, Helen plans on getting her masters in public policy or a related field, and she wants to work in some form of economic policy-making or research. When asked to share a piece of advice with her fellow Terriers, Helen said, “It’s going to be okay. No matter how many curveballs are thrown at you or how much doubt creeps in, you will be alright. College is tough, but you have the ability to succeed in whatever capacity that looks like to you.
