In Taiwan, Greenpeace East Asia has found that reefsā€”and the marine life that depends on themā€”are under serious pressure from fishing activities. From excessive vessel movements to discarded fishing gear, these fragile ecosystems are far from safe.ā£ ā£ Alarmingly, these harmful practices are happening even within designated Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Due to weak law enforcement and inadequate penalties, illegal or harmful fishing continues to disturb these vital habitats.ā£ ā£ We urge the Taiwan government to strengthen its ocean protection efforts.
