EAGLES EDGE LIONS: With the Trinity League title on the line, the jserra_boys_water_polo team and rival Santa Margarita engaged in a tense, back-and-forth struggle on Wednesday, with the Eagles holding off the Lions by a score of 11-10 in the regular season finale at JSerra Catholic High School.

JSerra closes out the regular season with a record of 18-10 and finishes second in league with a 4-1 mark.

In front of a packed crowd at the JSerra Aquatics Center on Senior Day, first period goals from senior Connor Colman and freshman Sasha Bjelica propelled the Lions to a 2-2 tie at the end of the first period.

Junior Joe Wraith found the back of the net with 3:41 left in the second period to tie the contest at 3-3, but Santa Margarita produced two goals in the final 3:02 of the first half and claimed a 5-3 halftime.

Colman scored twice in the third period and freshman Christopher Koo added his lone scoring tally, but the Eagles forged a 9-6 lead heading into the fourth period.

Colman’s fourth score of the game and 6-on-5 goal from sophomore Lars Knepper trimmed the Lions' deficit to 9-8 with 5:14 remaining.

The Eagles put forth a goal with 3:55 left to reclaim a two-goal advantage.

Colman converted a five-meter attempt for his fifth goal to bring the Lions back within a goal with 54 seconds remaining.

But Santa Margarita answered with a huge insurance score with 25 seconds remaining to seize a two-goal lead.

Sophomore Parker Johnson’s lone goal trimmed the deficit back to one with six seconds remaining, but the Lions were unable to gain a final possession before the clock reached triple zeros.

Senior goalie Jonas Ransford had eight saves for the Lions.

Colman, Ransford, and senior Andrew Broussard were honored pre-game for their contributions to the program.
