Today we’re comparing the Google pixel 8a to the iPhone 13 Pro Max — two super different $500 phones. In this test I took a look at camera, gaming, battery life, and temperatures, but here’s a few more categories in case you want a little extra:

Design: google eats here. For a while pixel has had a focus on aesthetics, color, and design and the 8a makes the 13 pro max feel straight up dated here. The pixel 8a has a sleek minimalistic feel with the colors aloe, bay, obsidian, and porcelain (so fancy). The 13 pro max isn’t bad by any means it’s just okay. A bit of a clunkier feel and with the less cool colors: graphite, silver, alpine green, and sierra blue. 

Software: now Pixel’s clean Android 14 is super refreshing. It’s got no bloatware (so nice) and has Google Assistant, the reigning heavyweight champ in AI assistants. But iPhone’s iOS is known for its smoothness and tight integration with Apple products. Both have pretty fire app stores and user experiences, so it’s pretty much a draw — down to your personal preference.

Display: NOW THIS IS PRETTY CLOSE, but the pixel 8a edges out the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Like I say in the video both displays come in at 120hz refresh rate — BUT the Google pixel 8a has a max brightness of 1400 nits and the 13 pro max is just 1200 nits. 

Storage: iPhone 13 Pro Max has a solid bit more storage maxing out at 1 TB (although significantly more expensive for this model) and pixel 8a maxes at 256 gb.
