The job isn’t finished yet, of course, but a tremendous degree of pride already permeates Gorton boys soccer as the playoffs approach.

Them looking at the Section 1 tournament brackets with a smile is a bit like a construction crew taking a step back to admire a structure after the foundation is laid. Sure, plenty of work remains, but there is an appreciation of the heavy lifting that was done.

Because this team capturing a league title, more than tripling its win total from last fall and having a strong enough regular season to earn the right to host a playoff game… Those things would’ve seemed far-fetched even a couple years ago.
