household gender roles are considered a key aspect of socialization, as they are the first and most significant way children learn about gender expectations and norms in their family.

This shapes their understanding of what it means to be a boy or girl through the division of labor in your home. It would be naive to think they do not carry these beliefs into their adult relationships and dynamics. 

The ones doing the work to unlearn these aspects of socialization that did not benefit us know it best.

Setting our kids up for success is ensuring they are independent and self sufficient in many ways. 

No I didn’t teach my husband to bake banana bread; yes, he taught me how to use a drill. We’re a team, we don’t judge each other… we just try to get the job done.
