I know need help but like…do I want it!?

Was having a convo with a friend at work on this topic - both of us asking ourselves, “why are we like this!!?”

It got me thinking and I ended up researching the topic to find it’s allll too common.

According to @theeverymom there are 3 main reasons moms struggle to accept help.

1. Cultural Norms - based on what you grew up with and what your culture dictates, motherhood is often seen as a one woman job. Do it all, and do it all well. What we fail to consider is how culture changes over time, and we can’t keep trying to fit a a contemporary lifestyle into archaic ideals. Redefining culture & creating a new normal that works for your own life is ok.

2. Approval/comparison - I find myself too often seeking validation. From who?! Idk!! I feel like a good mom when my children behave well in public, eat well, are kind and well mannered. If I accept too much help, what does that say about my ability to manage them? Nothing! It takes a village! Motherhood wasn’t meant to be done alone.

3. Relinquishing control - part of becoming a mom is owning your own style and way of doing things. You know best what works for your kids, and what they need! So giving this up, and allowing for a different way to be introduced to YOUR children is hard! Setting boundaries but also learning to let go a little bit is key here. Kids are also resilient, and sometimes multiple perspectives can really benefit them.

This all made tooooo much sense to me and made me feel so much more normal. Worth the share 🤍
