Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn spoke to the media on Tuesday, where he mentioned that they need to get quarterback Thomas Castellanos healthy.

Castellanos had a scary injury late in the fourth quarter, as Stanford’s defender was charged with a targeting penalty after the signal-caller gave himself up after a long run. The former UCF and Boston College transfer suffered an ankle injury against Kent State that it doesn’t seem like he has fully healed from.

Since the injury against the Golden Flashes, the quarterback has completed 73 of his 128 passes (57%) for 1,013 yards and six touchdowns with four interceptions. This is not the same Castellanos that he was early in the season.

As I mentioned previously, he is at his best when he is throwing the football 15-20 times per game, and presenting a dual-threat ability with his legs. However, when Castellanos has had the option to pull the football, he handed it off to the running backs. There were times in the Stanford game where when the Seminoles had to have it (during his touchdown run), he gave every bit of what he had.

Florida State has a bye week before playing Wake Forest on Saturday, November 1st at 7:30 PM EST on the ACC Network. If Castellanos does indeed not recover from his concussion, the Seminoles will turn to true freshman signal-caller Kevin Sperry to get the job done. 🍢 #GoNoles #fsufootball #thomascastellanos
