#BLPnews 🙏🏾 The City of New Orleans is reportedly running out of money, and officials are warning there might not be enough cash to pay police, firefighters, and city workers for the rest of the year 😳💰

According to Chief Administrative Officer Joe Threat, the city’s cash-flow crisis is worse than anyone thought, and payroll could soon be on pause. He alerted Budget Chair Joe Giarrusso and Council Vice President & Mayor-elect Helena Moreno, who are now demanding answers on why this was just discovered and what caused the additional shortfall 👀

An emergency City Council meeting is set for Wednesday at 3 p.m. to address the growing financial mess.

This all comes after the state auditor revealed New Orleans’ deficit is actually around $160 MILLION — way higher than the $100M first projected. Meanwhile, the city’s rainy day fund has $46M, but $37M is locked and can’t be used, leaving just $8M in surplus to keep things running 🥴
