Mayday Parade, When We Were Young 2025

REVIEW: Mayday Parade are the perfect band to embody everything that’s so wonderful about this scene, and, in turn, this amazing festival. Emotional, vibrant and gorgeously life-affirming, both in sound and stature, this latest appearance at this wonderful celebration of this unique community feels all the more pertinent as billboards for their freshly released album ‘SAD’ flash across the Vegas skyline as they play. And though opening number ‘Under My Sweater’ showcases how they still have that infectious knack for penning perfect pop-punk, today is also all about all the previous years that they have been at the top of the pile.
‘I’d Hate To Be You When People Find Out What This Song Is About’ is still as bold and biting as it was two decades ago, whilst the freewheeling hedonism of ‘Kids In Love’ is just as relatable now as then. ‘Oh Well, Oh Well’ is still a benchmark for heartfelt storytelling in alternative music, and getting to sing about driving out to see Las Vegas whilst in Las Vegas, as the eternal ‘Jamie All Over’ allows, is the stuff that dreams are made of.
It’s a reminder of how important these events are, something that Derek Sanders makes sure to highlight. These opportunities where we get to leave the outside world behind and scream our favourite songs with like-minded people should be grasped with both hands, because we know how easily they can disappear.
But just know that as long as Mayday Parade are around, they will always strive to make these moments a reality. 
And that’s the sort of peace of mind that you can depend on.
