REVIEW: There are no better flagbearers for hardcore on a worldwide scale than Knocked Loose. Their rise through the ranks, without ever losing any of the bludgeoning heft that made their earliest shows such terrifying affairs, is something to behold, and in once again taking over When We Were Young, they tighten their grip more and more.
‘Don’t Reach For Me’ and ‘Blinding Faith’ are guttural perfection, whilst the discomforting chaos that surrounds ‘Moss Covers All’ and ‘Take Me Home’ are firm reminders of just how contorting the band’s sound has become. Though what stands out the most is just how at home they feel in these gigantic spaces now. Bryan Garris has developed into a truly formidable frontman alongside being a sensational vocalist, captivating this crowd effortlessly amidst the chaos, while guitarists Issac Hale and Nicko Caulderon excel at throwing their weight around this open playground and delivering the most debauched riffs.
Add in a deafening ‘Counting Worms’, an utterly feral ‘Billy No Mates’, and a tectonic ‘Everything Is Quiet Now’, and this is chalked up as a showing for the ages.
Nobody is doing it to the level that Knocked Loose are right now, and anyone who dares try to match them better know what they are getting themselves into.
Pure domination.
