"I have pretty vivid memories of my days at ASU. I will say it was through the college of Psychology that I started to learn some leadership skills. As a member of Psi Chi, I met mentors who helped me to learn about leadership and why it's important to be involved, not only in the university but in the community around the university. I remember applying to be a volunteer for Southwest Behavioral Health. I was only 19 or 20 and it was hard to get good clinical volunteer hours. I actually got trained in crisis counseling — I loved it. I felt I was providing a service to the community that was invaluable and I think that's when I started to notice what community service does for you as a person, as a society and professionally."
