♥️ LOVE PEBBLES ❤️

Separation anxiety is really common (so many of us are experiencing it right now 😭) lots of children feel worried when it’s time to say goodbye at school.

Our daughter is going through it at the moment and it’s HARD, we don’t know if what we are doing is ‘right’ but here are some of the ways we are trying to help our daughter with the separation anxiety…

1. Love Pebbles - A sensory comfort tool: you and your child each keep a stone with a heart drawn on it. They can squeeze or touch it whenever they miss you, knowing you’re holding one too. We have made approximately twenty billion since the start of school 🤪

2. After-School Planner - Plan a fun little activity for when school is finished (like baking, park, or reading together). Having something to look forward to makes goodbyes easier. I have a printable version if you want one!

3: Connect with the Teacher - Let your child’s teacher know how they’re feeling. Teaming up helps your child feel supported both at home and in class. You might even get some snippets of information to talk to them about at home.

4. Celebrate Brave Moments - Notice and praise their courage, even in tiny steps. “You were so brave walking in today!” helps build resilience and pride.

5. Okay the feelings - Let them know that it’s okay to feel sad and to cry. Talk about when you felt sad and how you managed it- giving them ways to manage their emotions. For example: When I feel sad I try to keep myself busy by drawing etc.

Bonus idea: My sons had a great idea to help her, they have drawn her some surprise pictures to take into her class to colour in 🥹

💌 Remember, separation anxiety doesn’t last forever and if you need to cry too then let it out over a cup of tea ☕️
