Saying someone is “too pretty to be disabled” suggests that disability and beauty can’t coexist. As if attractiveness, strength, and disability are mutually exclusive. That’s simply not true. People with disabilities come in every form, and are beautiful, stylish, strong, and capable.

This kind of language, even when well-intentioned, reinforces harmful biases. It overlooks the individuality, experiences, and accomplishments of disabled people, especially women who already face layers of discrimination like ableism, sexism, and unrealistic beauty standards.

So here’s the truth: beauty and disability are not opposites. A person can be both.
