LIONS KNOCKOUT LANCERS: The jserra.girlsvb team made the long journey to Thousand Oaks a victorious one on Thursday, as the Lions took down the Thousand Oaks Lancers 25-21, 25-27, 25-23, 25-19 in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs at Thousand Oaks High School.
 
The Lions are now 19-14 overall and will host Bishop Montgomery in the quarterfinals round next Wednesday at JSerra Catholic High School.

JSerra began the opening set by winning 10 of the first 14 points, and though the Lancers narrowed the deficit to 21-18, senior Charlotte Nowak sealed a four-point set triumph with a thunderous kill.

It was a similar start to the second set, as the Lions claimed 10 of the first 15 points.

Thousand Oaks responded with strong play in the middle of the set, taking its' first lead at 21-20.

JSerra rallied to set point at 25-24, but Thousand Oaks found the deciding surge by scoring the final three points to tie the match.

The teams engaged in an entertaining back-and-forth in the third set, which featured 12 ties.

The Lancers opened up a 21-17 lead, but two kills from junior Katherine Nowak and a kill from Charlotte Nowak helped tie the score at 22-22.

Senior Ava Ziegler brought the Lions to set point with a kill and an unforced Lancers error secured the pivotal third set for JSerra.

The Lions raced out of the gate in set four, claiming seven of the first 10 points, with sophomore Riley Tsai providing the final point of the run with an ace.

Thousand Oaks climbed back to within a point, but two kills from Katherine Nowak sparked the Lions to open up a six-point advantage.

Ziegler punched the Lions’ ticket into the quarterfinals on match point, smashing a booming kill off an assist from senior Catherine Beadles.

Katherine Nowak and Charlotte Nowak tied for team-high honors with 17 kills apiece.

Charlotte Nowak also led the team with 18 digs.

Ziegler added 10 kills, two solo blocks, and four block assists.

Beadles supplied a team-leading 45 assists.

Sophomore libero Madison Goodrich also helped fuel the defense with 16 digs.
