In Saturday's bananaball game against the Banana's All Stars, auburnbaseball  debuted the first of the new Nike uniforms.

The Tigers are throwing back to the 1960s and 1970s with a new powder blue uniform. The jerseys match almost identically to what past Auburn teams wore, with the arching wordmark on the front and the orange and white striped sleeves and collars.

The original uniforms were paired with matching powder blue pants and orange belts. The new design is worn with white pants that feature a powder blue stripe on the legs. Auburn is also sporting powder blue belts and socks with the look. The new jerseys are also using the new Auburn Athletic numerals rather than the block font used for the original uniforms. 

Auburn even added a new Block A batting helmet to the rotation to complete the throwback look.

Powder blue can be a controversial color for many, claiming that Auburn "isn't a powder blue team." That stance requires some necessary context, however. 

Major League Baseball teams wore powder blue road uniforms throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The Chicago Cubs were the first team to introduce a light blue uniform in 1941. By 1981, 11 of the League's 26 teams had powder blue uniforms.

Powder blue uniforms were traditionally used for the team's road uniforms, replacing the usual grey uniforms. By 1992, the blue road uniforms were gone in the MLB, replaced with grey. In recent years, the colorway has returned with a nostalgic flair. 

So if you complain about Auburn not truly being a powder blue school, you should also complain about the grey uniforms. They're the same thing.
