✨ People I have to block for nasty comments? Women. 

✨Nasty comments about my body ? Women. 

✨Demeaning comments about my son's adoption? Women. 

✨Passive aggressive comments about my career? Women. 

If you want to know why we have mean girls in school, it's because we have mean women in adulthood. 

It never ends. It's generational. Middle school parenting is exhausting. While I don't dignify comments with direct responses, "ignoring" the behavior continues the cyclical pattern of mistreatment so pervasive in our society. The mother attacking other women on social media is likely to raise the daughter who does the same. I see it in conversations. I see it in school. 

I have been a single mother who has worked three jobs to pay off collegiate student loans. I have held leadership positions in sports media. I met my husband in the minor leagues living with his parents; he moved into my home when we married. There are times where I've lacked motivation to be healthy, there are months where I'm committed to 4:30am bootcamps. I live the blessing that is adoption; I've experienced the pain of burying a child. Whether I'm in a season of success or struggle... there have always been women who seek degradation for sport.

The celebration of other women seems to be a real struggle for our gender. Despite the research that proves that celebrating other women encourages reciprocal support, we are falling short. We need to be better for ourselves... for our daughters who are watching. It is not a woman's responsibility to answer to the insecurities of another woman. 

For every young girl who gets anxiety from where to sit at lunch and for every girl not included, we need to be more purposeful in our intentions, in our words and in what our children see us post on social media. 

Perhaps if we can't offer another woman our grace and our kindness, we should offer her our silence... because WORSE than being a mean girl is to CREATE one.
