One FINE ART, one SPORT... until your children find their passion....

That's my parenting strategy for healthy child development... hear me out as I run between a dance competition, basketball and baseball today....

Fine arts, including dance, music, drama and art enhances the emotional development of children by providing outlets for self expression. Learning how to play an instrument, memorize an 8-count or paint with watercolor encourages creativity and enhances cognitive development. Research has shown that students who play music have higher academic achievement and exam scores across all subjects.

Aside from the physical benefits of athletics, children's sports also help reduce stress and allow for better sleep. Being part of a team enhances social skills in a world of digital connection. Sports increase self confidence and allow for leadership opportunities.

Participating in both athletics and the fine arts allows children to use both sides of their brain. Moreover, auditioning for the school play, being a guard on the grade school basketball team or playing the trumpet because your dad thinks you'll learn to play the Rocky theme song (my Emma) also forms a healthy acceptance of ALL peers. There seems to be a natural division that occurs in middle school between kids who play sports and kids who prefer the arts. Having your child understand both worlds makes your child a BRIDGE not the wall!

Participation is one of the best forms of education. Athletics and the arts don't just build character, they reveal it. Guide your child to be the participant and not the spectator!

** For ideas, I had Jack play drums as a little boy to help with ADHD as he played baseball. Many of my girls took art and music classes while Grace participated in drama club as she danced and took gymnastics. We've participated in church plays and community events. There are opportunities for all budgets. It's worth your time💗
