Where is the best place to practice dying? Spiritual communities immediately come to mind, but what about an art museum, a prison, a public or even digital space? 

We are experiencing a profound shift in how we think and talk about death, with a growing recognition of the need for open, culturally sensitive, and psychologically informed conversations about dying and end-of-life care. 

Join us at #ISCR2025 for the interdisciplinary panel, "Rehearsing Death: demystifying and preparing for death and dying in art institutions, spiritual communities, and public spaces." In this discussion, experts from art, medicine, and spirituality will explore innovative approaches that help us rehearse and demystify death. 

The panel will feature Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art curator and program innovator, Tim McHenry; Vajrayana Buddhist teacher and former prison and hospice chaplain, Justin von Bujdoss (repadorje); and biocultural anthropologist and Tibetan medical doctor Tawni Tidwell (tawnitidwell). 

The discussion will be moderated by Kate Mondloch, Professor of Contemporary Art History and Theory at the University of Oregon (uoregon), whose research explores how immersive environments, contemplative practices, and new technologies impact human perception, both in art and in the social realm.
