From May 16 to September 7, 2025, I held my solo exhibition “Takashi Murakami: Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow” at the Cleveland Museum of Art clevelandmuseumofart. Through discussions with the museum team and the curators, we installed a structure called Yumedono in the museum’s atrium.

I asked Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, the American producers of the historical drama series “SHOGUN”, to help produce it, and they, together with Helen Jarvis, their production designer, led the design direction. Working with the production manager Melissa Ciampa and the production company 11th St. Workshop, we successfully completed the structure in time for the exhibition, receiving tremendous reactions.

In order to creatively raise the necessary funds to produce this Yumedono, what I came up with together with the museum was to sell my limited-edition prints and to draw custom portraits, donating the entire proceeds to the museum.
However, at the moment, I am confronted with two major problems.

One is that I am stalled with the production of the portraits I am supposed to make. Though I am the one who came up with this very idea and put things in motion, honestly, I am really struggling.

The reason is that because I am an artist, sometimes I’m “on” creatively and sometimes I simply am not.

2025年5月16日から9月7日まで開催した、クリーブランドミュージアムclevelandmuseumofartでの展覧会「Takashi Murakami: Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow」では、ミュージアムの方、キュレーターの方々と話し合って、夢殿という建造物を館内のアトリウムに設置しました。

プロデュースを、アメリカの歴史ドラマシリーズ『SHOGUN 将軍』のプロデューサーであるジャスティン・マークス（Justin Marks）さんとレイチェル・コンドウ（Rachel Kondo）さんにお願いして、彼らとヘレン・ジャーヴィス（Helen Jarvis）さんにデザインディレクションしてもらって、現場のプロデューサーのメリッサ・チャンパ(Melissa Ciampa)さん、それと、11th St. Workshopという制作会社で、見事、期日内に完成して展覧会を行い、大変好評を博しました。

この夢殿の制作費をなんとか稼ぎ出すために、私と美術館が考え出したのが、肖像画を描いたり、僕の版画を販売したりして、その収益のすべてを美術館に寄付することです。ですが、現在、2つの難問に取り組んでいます。1つは、私への肖像画の制作が滞っておること。正直、私自身がこのアイデアを出して始めたものなんですけれども、本当に難航しています。
理由は、私もアーティストなので、気分が乗ったり、乗らなかったり。
