It’s been revealed that the developers of ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ asked actors to come back into the studio to re-record lines of dialogue so they could include they/them pronouns.

‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ was released in 2023 by Larian Studios and is the most-recent game in the role-playing video series based on Dungeons & Dragons. It was celebrated as “the queerest game of all time” for its inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters and storylines.

The Gamer recently spoke to ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ performance director Aliona Baranova about the game’s inclusivity, including the use of they/them pronouns.

“I feel it was a game-changer when Larian decided that every single line that mentions pronouns would be recorded with the they/them option,” Baranova said.

“We’d already started recording and we had a lot of lines down with just ‘he’ and ‘she’ pronouns but we brought people back in to make sure, even if it was just one line, to say ‘they/them’.”

Voice actor Jennifer English praised ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ for its work and advised other developers to take note.

“You can take those risks, in inverted commas, and reap the rewards, if you do it from the heart,” English said. “Do it with good writing, good performances and direction, just be passionate about it.”
