London North Eastern Railway has paid tribute to its staff member, Samir Zitouni, who remains in hospital after Saturday’s mass stabbings on a train in Cambridgeshire.

In a statement, they said “In a moment of crisis, Sam did not hesitate as he stepped forward to protect those around him.”

Police are investigating whether the suspect, 32-year-old Anthony Williams — charged with 11 counts of attempted murder — is linked to three other knife incidents in Peterborough and London.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has praised police and first responders, while Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood commended the “heroic” actions of staff, including the train's driver Andrew Johnson, and Samir Zitouni.
