Maybe Vladdy Jr. touched the money, and the Baseball Gods decided the only way out of 2025 for him was about as traumatic a way to end a baseball season as possible. The Blue Jays playing New York, New York at Yankee Stadium, mocking their opponent was a frustrating look as a fan, but also, you’d better win the World Series if you do that. Vladdy and the one-hit wonders did not.

The Blue Jays were up 3-2 heading into Toronto, and Game 6 ended on a brutal double play where Kikè threw the runner out at second after running down a fly ball.

In Game 7, we saw IKF in vintage Yankee form. He didn’t take a big enough secondary lead at third base. Miguel Rojas then got the force out at home. With a decent lead off third, it’s probably Toronto that’s celebrating today.

It’s hard to feel bad for Vlad. We could empathize with those tears if he didn’t try to look cool, sucking up to Big Papi after they beat the Yankees. I’m not a hate-watch type of person, but I’d be lying if my initial thought wasn’t, “Well, you brought this upon yourself.”
Toronto was especially obnoxious this year on all fronts, so to lose a World Series in such excruciating fashion is actually lovely. Maybe I’m petty.

I think back to that Buck Martinez quote:

“The Yankees, they’re not a good team. I don’t care what their record is. They have a lot of wild pitches. They make a lot of mistakes in the field. They don’t run the bases very well.”

Look, Buck wasn’t wrong. It’s all the things we have all complained about. The thing is, it’s OKAY if we say these things. It’s okay if Joel Sherman says it in the Post. That’s in-house. Once it’s somebody out of our home talking like that, I say piss off. Enjoy the funniest L in recent World Series history. Here’s to another 32-year drought in Canada.
