“From the moment I applied to Susquehanna University, the first and only school I toured, it felt like Susquehanna was choosing me just as much as I was choosing it. Every time I tried to tour other schools, something would come up and I'd have to cancel. Then, I learned about Reed Hall and Smith Hall. Reed is my last name, and Smith is my mother's married name. Call it fate, call it signs, but I knew this was where I was meant to be. I found exactly what I needed: small class sizes, a communications program with incredible equipment available to students and opportunities like the Global Opportunities (GO) program that would push me to grow. 

Being a first-generation college student has been a leap of faith in a new direction; one I hope will reflect on generations after me. Accomplishing something my parents didn't experience has meant facing challenges we couldn't have anticipated, but we've all grown together through it. From maintaining a place on the Dean's List to serving as president of the Black Student Union to traveling to Japan, each milestone has reinforced to me that I'm capable of overcoming any obstacle. As the oldest of seven, I'm grateful to be paving this path.”
