Follow @kalejunkie for more recipes! Let’s make my mom’s MANTI, one of my most favorite Armenian dishes! These are little crispy meat-filled dumplings in the shape of a boat that can be eaten alone or in a simple broth topped with garlic yogurt and sumac. SOOOOOO GOOD!⁣
⁣
Note: other middle eastern cultures have their own take on Manti, this is the one I grew up with!⁣
⁣
And also, most Armenian grandmas make their own dough from scratch and would dieeeee if they saw me using won ton wrappers, but TRUST ME, use the won ton wrappers. This is already time consuming to make, ya don’t need to make dough from scratch—unless you ARE grandma 😏. ⁣
⁣
Mom’s Manti Recipe—serves 6-8⁣
1 small onion⁣
1 pound ground beef (or lamb or turkey)⁣
2 cloves garlic ⁣
2 tsp paprika⁣
1 tsp salt & 1 tsp black pepper⁣
1/3 cup parsley (about 1/2 bunch) ⁣
⁣
Wonton wrappers⁣
4 tb butter, for greasing pan & brushing mantis ⁣
⁣
Broth:⁣
1 cup tomato sauce⁣
3 cups chicken broth⁣
Salt & pepper⁣
⁣
Yogurt-garlic sauce ⁣
1 cup greek yogurt⁣
2 cloves garlic, mashed⁣
1 tsp salt ⁣

Sprinkle of sumac for garnish
⁣
In a food processor, add the onion and pulse until fine. Add the beef, garlic, paprika, s&p, and pulse a few times then add the parsley last and pulse again. Transfer meat mixture to a bowl. Cut wontons into 4 small squares. Put a tiny meatball on each square. Dip fingers in water to dab on each corner of the wonton so you can close them. Make boats as shown. Repeat the process. Melt 2 tb of the butter and use it to grease a baking pan. Line up the manti on the baking sheet, the closer together, the better. Use remaining melted butter to brush on top of the manti. Bake at 400F for 40 minutes until golden and crispy. To make broth, add the ingredients to a small pot and bring to a simmer. For the garlic sauce, just add yogurt, garlic and salt to a bowl and mix well. To serve, add a handful of manti to a bowl, ladle broth on top, followed by yogurt sauce. Add sumac to garnish and enjoy! ⁣
