When you start photography, the sheer volume of information can be paralyzing. I remember feeling completely lost, jumping from tutorial to tutorial, and producing zero work I was proud of. If you’re stuck in that cycle of analysis paralysis, know that it’s completely normal. The thing that finally broke me out of that funk was realizing I was trying to master too many things at once. Instead of trying to shoot every genre with every setting, I decided to master a single constraint. 🤍

That simplification leads to two things: consistency and confidence. When you aren’t worried about color grading or changing lenses, you can dedicate 100% of your focus to the fundamentals: light and composition. That period of constraint built my foundation. The second thing that helped me stop feeling lost was creating personal projects.

Don’t let the noise of the industry keep you from creating. Being lost simply means you haven’t given yourself clear, simple instructions yet. Pick one simple thing to focus on this week—maybe it’s only shooting during Golden Hour ☀️, or only practicing Manual focus. Small, consistent action beats complex, inconsistent planning every single time. Get back to the basics, give yourself permission to fail, and let curiosity lead you back home to your passion.
