At 57, Laura Wasser is probably the most famous divorce lawyer in the country or, at least, in Los Angeles. Her client roster reads like the guest list at an Oscars after-party’s after-party: Kim Kardashian, Angelina Jolie, Kevin Costner, Ariana Grande. She’s become such a fixture of her celebrity clients’ imaginations over the decades they’ve begun integrating her likeness into their work. In 2019, Noah Baumbach created a character reputedly based on her in his film ‘Marriage Story’ — the attorney Nora Fanshaw, played by Laura Dern.

Last year, Wasser learned she was to be fictionalized yet again by one of her clients, and this time things would lean campier. In Ryan Murphy’s ‘All’s Fair,’ Kim Kardashian plays a divorce lawyer named not Laura but nearly: “Allura.” The trailer features a slew of poppy you-go-girl-isms, such as “You know what a girl’s best friend is? Not diamonds: her lawyers.”

But Wasser has been around long enough to get that Hollywood is going to take some creative license with her onscreen persona. Read our #Encounter interview with the real-life laurawasserofficial at the link in our bio.
