It’s 3/07 day so I thought it would be fun to take a look at the evolution of my 307c!

I learned this dive right after 2005 World Championships when I was contemplating retiring. I competed it two weeks later at US Nationals, which is where the first two dives in this video were from. They were pretty good considering I just learned them, but I can tell by my rushed actions that I was nervous and unsure of myself.

Obviously I still wanted to learn more and push my limits so I decided to keep diving- yay!

You can see in 2006 I wasn’t quite as nervous and quick on the takeoffs. I was becoming more confident on my kickouts so they looked a little less like “survival mode.”

In 2007 I was stronger and more patient, so I was jumping much higher on the start and making the dive way easier, even to the point of struggling a bit to control the entry.

You’ll see that everything comes together in 2008, where I earned straight 10’s in the finals of the Olympic Trials. I was strong, I was confident, and I knew exactly what I was doing.

In our instant gratification culture, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that doing hard things will not happen overnight. You have to know that the work, effort and commitment you put in today aren’t going to pay off tomorrow. It’s going to take TIME.

That’s hard to hear, believe me, I know. But It’s true. And if you decide to just be frustrated and give up because it’s going to take longer than you want, then you will NEVER get there.

But if you dig your heels in and commit to being consistently “all in”, you have the opportunity to do things most people will only dream of.

It’s worth the grind. It’s worth the frustration. It’s worth the wait.
