Do you remember shopping at the Yankee Trader building? 🎪➡️

Their early ads boasted “horses, clocks, jewelry, knives, stuffed toys, lighters, watches, radios, etc”… and if that doesn’t perfectly sum up their next 60 years of business, nothing will.

In 1948, they started as a novelty wholesaler for the carnival trade (if you won a ring toss back then, there’s a good chance your prize came from Yankee Trader).

In 1965, the company moved into this famous home at 463 N. High St., a 1909 furniture showroom that Yankee Trader filled with trinkets, toys, and unique party supplies. They became a popular spot for wedding supplies, birthdays, bar and bat mitzvahs, and especially Halloween.

When Yankee Trader closed in 2010, the owners chose to preserve the historic building. It was converted to offices, bars, and restaurants, like denmarkonhigh  and bareburger. The building is now part of the northmarket Historic District.

Several of our library staff have fond memories browsing Yankee Trader for Halloween costumes… Do you?
