Brett and Amy Monea, along with their friend and business partner Angie Payne, have turned a modest cattle operation near Carstairs, Alberta into a world-class facility—one that combines the healing power of horses with the high intensity of rodeo bullfighting, cattle handling, and the camaraderie that brings it all together. Through The Equus Experience and The Ultimate Rodeo Bullfighting Experience, their workshop-style, day-long events at Rafter U7 Ranch have become something truly special.
Their pride and passion are on full display at every event they host—and it radiates the moment you pull into the yard.

I’ve been incredibly fortunate to be part of Rafter U7’s programming as a photographer since 2020. In a time when the world felt uncertain and heavy, they leaned into their strengths: Amy and Angie’s expertise in mental health and psychology, and Brett’s lifetime of experience handling cattle and protecting cowboys in the arena. I may just be the guy with the camera, but every time they bring me along, I find myself more deeply connected.

Whether it’s a quiet, meaningful conversation with Amy, or trusting Brett enough to throw on a chest protector and “make a round” with the cattle, you always leave their place with something valuable—a new skill, a fresh perspective, or a renewed appreciation for the western way of life and its ability to uplift.

This past weekend, 4-H Alberta returned to the ranch, quickly making their visit an annual tradition. From private and corporate retreats to bringing the Bullfighting Experience to the Canadian Finals Rodeo, Rafter U7 is a place where businesses, community groups, and individuals can come to grow—personally, professionally, or just for a damn good day of team building.
