I am elated and humbled to be able to say I will be working in the dirt at the 50th Canadian Finals Rodeo. One hundred plus competitors will be making their way into the state-of-the-art Rogers Place in Edmonton in a couple of weeks to decide their champions. As someone who was able to shoot at CFR in Northlands and experience how cool that venue was in its hay day, a return for the sport to its original home is special. So many competitors I have spoken to were extra motivated to qualify this year with the return to Edmonton.

My season, once complete, will have seen 115 performances of rodeo, bull riding and chuckwagon racing. I have covered five provinces, spent 20 nights in my new roadloft digs, and taken literally hundreds of thousands of images. I have made memories with many, strengthened my friendships and looked to the future. My focus this year was to continue to bring a bigger picture focus to the way I photograph our sport, nurture the next generation of photographers and videographers and make sure that every committee that not only hired me, but simply built an event for me to work at understood my appreciation. This sport provides a living to many, and is majority run by volunteers. I do not have a sandbox to play in without the efforts of so so many passionate volunteers. Thank you.

I have a hard time comparing my journey to the finals to anyone who hauls a horse, holds a reign or straps their hand into a riggin’ or bull rope. Our competitors put blood, sweat and tears into this game. But when you are involved in this sport, however, your goal must be to be at the Canadian Finals Rodeo. It’s where champions are crowned, and it’s the pinnacle event of the Canadian Pro Rodeo season. I believe that the sport of rodeo deserves professionalism in its marketing, and I try to maintain a sport first attitude year in and year out. I cannot wait to get to Edmonton, get refamiliarized with a building I have some experience in, and apply my efforts to both the content, marketing and even making sure your moments at the event you all strove to qualify for are captured for a lifetime.
