I’m currently in Puglia, which reminded me of one of the most common questions I’m asked: how it compares to the Amalfi Coast. I’ve visited Italy more times than I can count…and while both the Amalfi Coast and Puglia are breathtaking coastal destinations, they offer completely different experiences. That said, there are a few things Puglia simply does better. 

1. Authenticity & Local Flavor
Amalfi is stunning, no doubt, but it’s also filled with more tourists than locals these days. Puglia, whilst still welcoming plenty of tourists throughout the year, still feels deeply connected to its roots. Here, you’ll wander through quiet whitewashed villages where nonnas sit outside making orecchiette by hand. You’ll dine at family-run masserie (farmhouses) where everything on your plate was grown steps away. 

2. Beaches Where You Can Actually Relax
While Amalfi’s cliffside views are undoubtedly postcard-worthy, the actual beach experience can be a workout. Limited access, rocky coastlines, packed private clubs, and hefty price tags make lounging a bit of a mission. Puglia flips the script. Think soft, sandy beaches you can walk right onto with no stairmaster required. Whether you’re on the Ionian or Adriatic coast, there’s room to breathe, turquoise waters to float in, and far fewer crowds to dodge. 

3. Value for Money
In Puglia, your budget stretches further and not at the expense of style or substance. Chic boutique hotels, private villas with olive groves, and meals that taste like Michelin stars but cost like local trattorias make it a no-brainer. You’ll experience richness of flavor, culture, and design without the premium price tag you’ll often find in Amalfi.
