This year, around 60 mature students took Korea’s Suneung (CSAT) — and the oldest among them was 78-year-old Seo Hae-sook. 🎓🇰🇷

In an interview, she said, “I’m nervous because I don’t want to forget everything I studied. I want to do well.”

She also shared, “I entered middle school at the top of my class and even received scholarships, but I couldn’t go to high school because my family couldn’t afford both my tuition and my younger brother’s. So I had to give up my studies.” 😢

Decades ago, many people in Korea couldn’t continue their education due to financial hardship — especially women. That’s why Ilseong Women’s Middle & High School was founded: a two-year accredited lifelong education school for women in their 30s to 80s who never had the chance to finish school. 👩‍🏫💪

This year, 60 Ilseong students took the Suneung, chasing their long-held dream of going to college.

Because really — there’s no age limit to learning. 📚✨ Here’s to everyone who never stopped dreaming and kept working toward it! 💖

올해 수능에는 약 60명의 만학도가 응시했다고 합니다. 그중 최고령자는 78세 서해숙 씨였어요. 🎓🇰🇷

서 씨는 인터뷰에서 “그동안 공부한 걸 하나도 잊지 않고 잘 풀어야 하는데 많이 떨린다”고 말했는데요.
이어 “중학교에 수석으로 입학하고 장학금도 받았지만, 집안 형편이 어려워 남동생의 학비를 감당해야 해서 제 학업을 포기해야 했다”고 덧붙였습니다. 😢

몇십 년 전만 해도 한국에서는 경제적인 이유로 학업을 이어가지 못한 사람들이 많았고, 특히 여성들의 비율이 높았죠. 

이런 이들을 위해 만들어진 학교가 바로 일성여중고입니다. 이 학교는 어린 시절 사정상 학업을 마치지 못한 30대부터 80대까지의 여성 만학도들이 중·고교 과정을 배우는 2년제 학력 인정 평생학교예요. 👩‍🏫💪

올해는 이 일성여중고 재학생 중 60명이 수능에 응시하며 뒤늦게나마 대학 진학의 꿈에 도전했습니다. 정말 배움에는 나이가 없다는 말이 딱 어울리는 이야기죠. 📚✨
