Oh Youngsoo, who proved through Squid Game that age is just a number, wasn’t able to enjoy his late-found fame for long.

In 2017, he was accused of forcibly molesting a junior actress during a theater performance and was indicted without detention. He was even given a suspended prison sentence in the first trial. But in his recent appeal, the court overturned the verdict and found him not guilty.

The judge stated that the alleged hug “cannot be clearly distinguished from a polite embrace among colleagues” and that there was insufficient evidence to prove the victim’s claims, including the alleged kiss on the cheek.

Oh Youngsoo, who became the first Korean actor to win a Golden Globe for his role in Squid Game, had stepped down from multiple projects following the accusations — but this ruling now clears his name.

‘오징어 게임’을 통해 나이는 그저 숫자에 불과하다는 걸 보여줬던 배우 오영수. 하지만 뒤늦게 찾아온 성공의 기쁨을 그는 오래 누리지 못했습니다.

그 이유는 2017년, 연극 공연 중 함께 활동하던 극단 후배 여성을 강제추행한 혐의로 불구속 기소되었기 때문인데요. 그는 1심에서 징역형의 집행유예를 선고받으며 한때 유죄 판결을 받기도 했습니다.

하지만 그가 이번 항소심에서 무죄를 선고받았습니다. 재판부는 “동료로서 포옹인 줄 알았으나 평소보다 더 힘을 줘 껴안았다는 피해자 주장은 예의상 포옹한 강도와 얼마나 다른지 명확하게 비춰지지 않아 포옹의 강도만으로 강제추행죄가 성립한다고 보기 어렵다”며 “피고인이 피해자 주거지 앞에서 볼에 입맞춤 했다는 공소사실에 대해선 피해자의 진술의 신빙성을 입증할 만한 수사가 이뤄진 게 없다”고 밝혔습니다.

한편 오영수는 ‘오징어 게임’을 통해 한국 배우 최초로 미국 골든글로브 남우조연상을 수상했지만, 이 사건으로 인해 여러 차기작에서 하차하며 활동이 중단된 바 있습니다.
