Fact 1 - Answer: C
Industrial factories divert more than half a million tonnes of edible fish from West African waters every year to make feed for farmed animals abroad. That same fish could pro vide essential protein for over 33 million people in the region. That’s a massive injustice! 💔

Fact 2 - Answer: B
Tragically, major conservation organisations conservatively estimate that around 40% of the global marine catch is bycatch, caught unintentionally and often discarded. That’s millions of tonnes of sharks, dolphins, turtles, and other fish needlessly killed every year. We must demand selective, low-impact fishing gear. 🚫🦈

Fact 3 - Answer: C
The Fish In: Fish Out (FIFO) ratio for farmed carnivorous fish (like salmon) is far from sustainable. It can take 4 kg or more of smaller, wild-caught fish (like anchovies or sardines) to produce just 1 kg of farmed fish. This unsustainable practice puts massive pressure on wild fish stocks that millions of people rely on for food.

Fact 4 - Answer: B
Mangroves and other coastal ‘Blue Carbon’ ecosystems are climate superheroes! Studies show they can sequester carbon at a rate up to 10 times faster than mature tropical rainforests. Protecting these habitats is a non-negotiable step in the fight against climate change. 🌳💨

How and where we get our seafood has huge consequences for food justice, ocean health, and the climate. Demand transparency, support local, sustainable fishing practices, and choose your seafood wisely. Our oceans (and coastal communities!) depend on it.
