Agriculture Secretary #BrookeRollins said Thursday that the Trump administration plans to require all SNAP (food stamp) recipients to reapply for benefits due to concerns about fraud.

Rollins said that after reviewing data from 29 Republican-led states, the department found 186,000 people listed as deceased were still receiving SNAP benefits.

“This will allow us to rebuild the program, have everyone reapply, and ensure that anyone receiving taxpayer-funded SNAP benefits is truly eligible and in need,” she said.

The USDA notes that every state already requires SNAP recipients to regularly recertify their information, usually every six to 12 months, to update their address, income, and other details.
