In the ‘Tesseract’ paintings – a recent series named after the four-dimensional hypercube issuing from mathematical geometry – Howardena’s spray-painted dots proliferate.⁠

Within the variegated layers of coloured dots, floating forms can be made out, recalling bacteria, cells or primordial microorganisms.⁠
