Without him, I wouldn’t even exist! 
There is a recipe in my cookbook that’s dedicated to my grandfather. I named them Mourning Buns to honor his death, but they are actually Conchas (Mexican sweet bread.) I was a kid the first time I ever tried one of these amazing treats. He gave me a piece that was stashed away in a white bag on top of my grandma’s refrigerator. I was hooked! A simple but prevalent memory I hold dear. It was like a journey into his rich culture. Unfortunately a specific group of “Americans” is blind to the fact that this rich culture helped shaped this country. To them, my grandfather should be considered a criminal, illegal, and should be treated like an ant running away from the underfoot of a bratty ten year old who is obsessed with his orange finger paint! My grandfather was so much more than what those people may think! To me in my reality he is quite literally the CREATOR!!! A dream chaser, hard worker, and resourceful to an unbelievable extent. He wasn’t a threat to society, he wasn’t a dr*g lord, he didn’t “take people’s jobs.” He worked hard, did jobs I’m sure nobody wanted to do, and created a family of upstanding citizens with a myriad of talents and skills who give back to society on the daily. So I thank him from the bottom of my heart for his drive to make his dream a reality. Was he rich in a financial sense? No. But he was rich in love. Even when faced with adversity, he always found time to smile. The atrocities I am seeing in the news break my heart! Innocent people being taken away from their families and treated like scum. It’s absolutely disgusting. My descendants are not a threat to this country! They make it better. The real threat hides behind the stars and stripes! Don’t fall for it!! Thank you to those who are out there PEACEFULLY marching! Your courage inspires me more than you’ll ever know.
