Today on #WorldFisheriesDay we celebrate the small-scale fishers, coastal communities, and Indigenous Peoples who have long been at the heart of protecting marine biodiversity, sustaining livelihoods, and maintaining the balance that supports a healthy climate for everyone. ⁣

Yet the very communities sustaining the ocean are being pushed to the frontline of destruction by industrial ocean exploitation and climate change -  from Patagonia to Senegal, Thailand, and the Indian Ocean. This harms both people and the planet, depleting fish populations, triggering food insecurity, and causing social and economic distress.⁣

Yet coastal communities' leadership and knowledge keep shining through. Small-scale fishers and coastal movements are proving that they are the solution. ⁣
