“They need to get out of here.”

That’s the first thing we heard when we went to pick up these babies from our shelter partner, Minneapolis Animal Care and Control. The volunteers and staff there had done everything they could. Bathed them. Cleaned them. Loved them. But… you can only do so much in a shelter.

We said yes to these Poodles already knowing that they were part of an animal cruelty case. We still weren’t prepared for what we found when picking them up. What we did find… it broke our hearts 💔

These pups were in a state of neglect. They were matted. They were dirty. They were covered in sores from being so unclean. Their ears were infected. Some had high fevers. Others needed eye or hernia surgeries.

They were also fed. Comfortable with people. They wanted to be held.

You could tell they were loved. You see, the owners of these dogs knew they were in over their heads despite loving these dogs. The care required for five poodles is not only expensive, it’s overwhelming. Their coats require special grooming. They need daily brushing and frequent care.

We were told their body conditions were fine (other than the visible grooming needs). The owners weren’t trying to deceive us. They simply didn’t know. They were doing their best. Eventually they realized they couldn’t give these five dogs the care they needed to thrive.

That’s where rescue comes in. Together with MACC, we have been able to provide Bianca, Chanel, Gigi, Bijou, and Ziggy with immediate care. They were shaved, bathed, vetted, and placed into foster homes where they could heal. We’re still working on all of their medical needs… but we know it’s going to cost thousands. From orthopedic surgery to eye surgery to hernia repairs. The list goes on. It doesn’t matter though because we know it will be worth it. It’s always worth it to see them thrive.
