Last month, our team received one of those calls that we never want. One of our recently adopted pups, Simon, was at the emergency vet and had just been diagnosed with a life-threatening bowel obstruction. He needed emergency surgery to survive 💔

His family had already spent $2,000 on diagnostics and supportive care. The estimated $5,000 surgery was simply out of reach. They absolutely adore Simon, but like many of us, they couldn’t afford to spend $7,000 in a single week. As a last hope, they reached out to us.

At that moment, we were faced with an impossible decision: ask the family to surrender their beloved dog so we could take him to the emergency vet, tell them we were sorry but could not help due to lack of funds, or find a way to say yes and keep this family together.

These are the times we go back to our mission: We wake up every morning saying yes to connecting people and animals, caring for them, and helping them fill each other’s hearts.

The decision became clear, but was possible only because our whole staff believes in that very mission. As soon as our veterinary team heard about Simon, they didn’t hesitate. They rearranged their schedules, extended their day, and prepared to perform the emergency surgery in our in-house Veterinary Center. During surgery, we all held our breath, praying the damage wasn’t too extensive.

Simon made it. Today, he is back home. He’s healing. He’s safe. He’s surrounded by the family that loves him. They are overwhelmed with gratitude.

The reason he’s able to be in his home is you. You helped save his life ❤
