The day is here. The day that non-profits all over Minnesota wait all year for. The day that decides the future.

We want to start Give to the Max Day off by sharing a story that hits close to home. A story that encompasses what we stand for. A story that shows the power of the bond between animals and humans.

A couple months ago, the unthinkable happened at a school in our community. There are days that test us all. Days we don’t know how we will make it through. Days we know that we will never fully recover from. We all know that the shooting at Annunciation School was one of those days.

It was also the heartbreaking day that led to one foster family realizing their foster, Larry, was already home.
Kelly is a first responder in Minneapolis. She was working the day of the Annunciation shooting. What she saw on her fellow shift mates’ faces reflected exactly what she was feeling. Heartbreak. Devastation. They were all simply crushed from being the first ones on the scene. This day only added to the weight of every other tragic 911 call they’ve witnessed. Kelly came home completely drained, carrying the kind of exhaustion and heartbreak that only a few can imagine.

And that’s when Larry did what dogs do best… he just knew 🥹

Without hesitation, Larry went straight to Kelly. He laid next to her and didn’t move until she did. For the rest of the night, he never left her side.

In Kelly’s wife’s words: “Seeing this bond, it has become clear that Larry is already part of our family. We plan to train him as an emotional support animal for my wife through Soldier 6. Thank you so much for entrusting us with Larry. He has truly found his place here.”

This is what your support makes possible. Not just adoptions, but healing, comfort, and connection when the world feels too heavy.

Stories like Larry’s remind us why we do this work: because the bond between people and animals changes everything. The bond between people and animals gives us hope 🤍

Please consider making a gift today to help more families, including heroes like Kelly, find the peace, love, and companionship they deserve.
