California is staring down a major budget problem and the numbers are only getting worse.

According to the Legislative Analyst’s Office, the state is projected to face an $18 billion deficit next year and a staggering $35 billion deficit the year after that.

The issue, they say, is simple: California is spending more than it’s bringing in.

Governor Gavin Newsom has floated several ideas to stabilize the state’s finances.

Some are controversial, some painful, and others, depending on who you ask, might be the perfect solution.

One group, Californians United for a Responsible Budget, says the answer is straightforward: close more state prisons.
