Stay pain-free or prevent it from ever happening!

These helped me and I hope they help you. No one talks about how mentally tough it is to navigate injury. I’ve been there, trust me, so this is all that I did to get back in my running bag, or in other words, bring back my happiness:

1. Consulted and trusted a pro, followed the program and treated rehab as seriously as marathon training.

2. Wore higher heel to toe drop shoes to reduce load on the Achilles and stayed off carbon plates .

3. Cut all speed work and paused intensity completely to let the tendon calm down.

4. I didn’t stop running, I ran smart and focused on fixing the root cause, not just the pain. Embraced manageable discomfort with small workouts (10 min on / 1 min off) and gradually increased mileage as long as symptoms stayed controlled.

5. I started taking collagen to support my tendon health.

6. Strength training with purpose: Legs 2x/week focused on calf strength, injury prevention and correcting deficiencies.

7. Cross-trained a lot more and used low-impact sessions to stay fit without overloading the tendon.

8. Wore heel caps during the day and didn’t walk barefoot especially in the morning after waking up.

9. Doubled down on recovery.

10. Swapped roads for treadmill (80/20) to reduce daily impact on the tendon.

11. Protected my mindset, accepted the situation, made peace with it, respected the process, focused on what I could control and stayed the course.

12. Got super comfy daily shoes. Made sure every step, not just runs, supported my recovery.

13. Visualized the comeback, stayed positive and celebrated others because running is a collective sport.
