I was running a sequence with Prophet, he knocked the first bar five times. I can’t count on one hand the number of times he’s ever knocked a first bar. 😅

After getting a thorough physical at one of the most renowned rehab facilities in Canada. He got a clean bill of health. 🩺

I knew by about knocked bar number three what the problem was, it was a picture. He’d never seen it. I’d never seen it, and I knew I could remove one element from the picture to make this better for him. 👀

And all that I did was when I moved away, I did not lose my eyesight on him. Typically on the first jump, I can release him and start moving and running and looking where I’m going. Well, I just released him and kept an eye on him, which I’d love for him to learn that I don’t need to do that every time. 🐕

But the sequence that was set up gave him the permission to explode towards the second jump after the first. And I knew that was why the bar fell. 🚀

Had I decided to use physical punishment with him, all that I would’ve done is made him more apprehensive about doing agility with me. ⚠️

The bar falling was a message to me. This is a picture that we need to revisit in training. 📸 #dogtraining #reinforcementbasedtraining #agilitytraining #agilitydog #susangarrett #dogsthat #thinkingsports
