This time last year, I was on the tail end of relearning how to walk. This process was really hard for me, physically and mentally. Imagine telling your foot to move, toes to wiggle, ankle to flex, and getting no response. Mix in the occasional seizure activity where my leg would go completely numb for a minute. That was my reality.

When my sister asked who wanted to do this turkey trot, for some reason I agreed to run the 5k. My spirit told me that I needed to. So I signed up and started trying to train. I set a goal of trying to finish under 50 minutes. To a lot of people, that probably seems slow. And it is. But I'm not a runner. I'm a lifter. I have always hated running. Always will. But I knew I could do it. I was running paces in practice that told me that I could do it, but it was gonna take WORK on race day.

38 degrees. 150ft of elevation change. A race in honor of another brain cancer patient, who passed away a few years ago. A whole lot of emotions and one hill that about ended it for me.

Finished in 44:19.

I can't wait to run again.
