Matthew Wright ‘26 is a double major in Political Science and Psychology, and has been interested in politics and civics since high school, where he developed a passion for change.

“When I started to take civics and government classes was when I realized, ‘Wow, there are some things I’d really like to change,’” Wright stated. When asked about an example of something he would like to change, he said, “I wish we had less roadblocks to voting!” Although he just started college, Wright has a game plan for where he wants to be after he graduates; “So the goal, I have two different versions, one where I work on the Hill somewhere or for some lobbying organization, and the alternative is I go teach somewhere and coach a rowing team.”

Wright is an active member of the Marist rowing team, and said that while being on the crew team does take up a lot of his time, he doesn’t find it too hard; “It’s not too bad! If I get the right amount of sleep, we’re all good.”

Wright is really enjoying his time on campus, stating that he’s already achieved some personal goals for starting college. “I’ve been getting outside of my comfort zone and hanging out with people, making new friends, and just enjoying what college can bring. I’ve been able to take the train to go to the city a few times already, and I wouldn’t be able to get that anywhere else.”
