🌍 Women’s History Month Spotlight: Renée Gonzalez de la Lama – Bridging Cultures Through History & Education 🎶

This Women’s History Month, the New Orleans Jazz Museum is celebrating the incredible women who shape and preserve culture, history, and the arts. Today, we highlight Renée Gonzalez de la Lama, a scholar, cultural ambassador, and advocate for educational and cultural exchange.

With a PhD in History from the University of Chicago, Renée’s expertise lies in understanding and documenting social movements—giving voice to historical narratives that shape our world today. Her academic journey has taken her across borders, earning degrees in Ethnology in Paris and Social Anthropology in Mexico, where she has made significant contributions to research, teaching, and policy.

Renée has dedicated her career to fostering cultural understanding, from designing Mexico’s first master’s program in Social Anthropology to serving as Deputy Director of the Mexico Tourism Board in Montreal and Paris, where she championed Mexico’s rich cultural heritage on an international stage.

Since 2015, she has played a vital role in shaping educational exchange programs as Director of Programs at COMEXUS, overseeing the Fulbright-García Robles scholarships that empower hundreds of scholars each year. Now, she continues this work by designing and implementing cultural exchange initiatives—ensuring that education and cross-cultural dialogue remain at the forefront of international collaboration.
