It’s that time of year when Temple Station deputies see an increase in package thefts, residential burglaries, and vehicle burglaries. As our community gears up for holiday shopping, please take a moment to protect your home, your belongings, and your peace of mind.

Here are some ways to prevent package theft and burglary outside your home:
	•	Remove packages from your porch as soon as possible.
	•	Ask a trusted neighbor to pick up deliveries if you’re not home.
	•	Use Amazon pickup locations or other secure delivery options.
	•	Install cameras where you receive packages and mail.
	•	Keep the exterior of your home well lit.
	•	Keep garage doors closed and secured.
	•	Padlock your electrical box.
	•	Install motion sensors on windows and doors.
	•	Keep your vehicles locked at all times.
	•	Remove valuables from your vehicle or lock them in the trunk.
	•	Don’t advertise new purchases—break down cardboard boxes and hide labels before putting them in the trash.
	•	If you’re leaving on vacation, place a hold on your mail with the post office and avoid posting your travel plans on social media.

Here are some ways to prevent burglary inside your home:
	•	Keep all windows and doors closed and locked.
	•	Add clamp blocks or wooden dowels to window and sliding door tracks.
	•	Keep valuable items and presents out of view.
	•	Keep curtains or blinds closed when you’re not home.
	•	Store valuable items in a safe that is bolted to the floor.
	•	Use an alarm system.
	•	Record serial numbers for important items and store them in a secure location.
